Writing Homebird was a real labour of love!

I did not write it to achieve any awards in literature… I wrote it for you, for my son and as a cathartic process which serves to remind me if I ever forget that I can do hard things and so can you!

Homebird is not a success story. It’s not a rags to riches tale.

It’s a messy, real, funny and ever evolving account of the decisions I made, the chances I took and the lessons I learned along the way.

Leaving Scotland to live overseas was never the plan, it was supposed to be a six-month trip.

Four countries, two businesses, one husband, one dog, and one son later… I’m still figuring s#!$ out.

Language barriers, homesickness, self-doubt, being kicked in the arse by post partum depression and anxiety and endless bureaucracy in countries that were never on my life map and wondering often if I was off my head... but doing it anyway.

  • Really good, honest account of Nikki’s life once she moved overseas then becoming a Mum. Takes the reader on her journey as she tells stories of the different countries she lived in and the laughs, struggles and tears along the way. She doesn’t sugarcoat any of it and provides advice that can easily be incorporated into daily life. Fab read!

  • This book delivers - a lot is crammed into this story of living and working in different countries and then on top of that dealing with becoming a mum (& wife) and how that then fundamentally led to big changes in Nikki’s career focus. Nikki doesn’t talk down to you; she doesn’t claim to have all the solutions, but rather, she includes you and shares humanity, humility and just some damn relatable life moments.
